A little bit about me :)

I am a stay at home mom (for the time being) who LOVES taking photos and is bound and determined to make the absolute most of my little point and shoot (Canon PowerShot A710) that we bought in February 2007 before the birth of my son.

As it gets slower and slower these days, we just made the choice to purchase another point and shoot - so there will be a mix of shots from the A710 and now the SX130 (purchased February 2011)

Happy Shooting!

Details

This weeks challenge over at iHeartFaces

“Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes…Anything But A Face!”

I was soo excited when I saw that! Don't get me wrong I LOVE face photographs... but being a detail person - this really called out to me.

I love to document the little moments, the little details often overlooked.

This shot is one I took in the local museum, of my son studying one of their active displays. I had never taken him there before (because I didn't really know how well my THREE year old would handle the museum)

He did beautifully. He is an observer most of the time... he sucks in everything (all the little details... just like his mama) like a sponge!

When he is studying anything, his hands automatically go together, behind him as he looks at every nook and cranny of something.

When he does that, along with his expression, I see a child who suddenly has that "wise beyond his years" look.

So here is my entry! Head on over to iHeartFaces to see the other entries!

A new point and shoot

In February of 2007 my boyfriend surprised me with a Canon PowerShot A710. The digital camera we were using was an old Olympus (lol 2.0 megapixel) and had stopped working during that fall before.

We were due to have our son in July and he knew I would want a camera to record all those little moments.

Never did either of us think that I would take more than 90,000 photos on it in 4 years (keep in mind there were probably 89,000 of them that were blurry, over or underexposed, test shots, badly composed shots, etc.....)

That little camera has served me well. However, it has been tortured long enough by me.

I would have liked to upgrade to a DSLR or at the very least maybe one of the Canon G series cameras, but money wise right now they are not fitting in the budget.

Soo when we found a really good deal on another PowerShot we decided we couldn't pass it up. I don't know how much longer I can count on the A710 and would rather have something else at the ready than to have to go buy a camera later on because the A710 died.

We bought the Canon PowerShot SX130 on Friday.

The verdict is still out. LOL I am a creature of habit, and I don't adjust well to change. Soo even though there are only small differences between the two - it will take me forever to get used to it LOL.

I don't have to look at the A710 to change a setting... where I am fumbling with the SX130.

Anyhow... enough of my rambling. Here are a few shots I took on Saturday with it.

This camera has a few novelty type settings on it. One of them is the fisheye setting. I used it on this one (I took this through the rather dirty windshield on my car LOL)

Through the window

These were all taken with my Canon PowerShot A710

And all through the same back window, and in the same tree :)

I like that there is a variety of things to look at even when a tree is the only view outside of this window :)

Found items and a favorite photo....

Some more random shots from the week my son and I stayed at my parents house.

This one is probably one of my favorites from the week.
A quiet moment with my son. He plays in this little entry way all the time when we are there... this week he played there a LOT. My parents recently got a puppy and my son is not too thrilled with it, so he hid out in this little area a lot (puppy is not allowed in this part of the house yet!)

All of the photos below were taken with my dad's Rebel except for the close up of the bobbins (4th photo down). It was taken with my P&S.

The rest are shots that give a little bit of my parents :)

The first 3 are some of my mom's things. She is a crafty person when it comes to thread and fabrics. I thought I would shoot some of her things she uses - the foot on her sewing/embroidery machine, some of her thread and then more thread but on bobbins.

These two photos are of one of my Dad's old camera collection. He used to be into photography when I was young... he still is but not like before. My dad didn't make the transition very well to the digital world :) He doesn't really have the interest the way he did with good old film.

Yummy

I am puppy sitting for my parents this week... which means I have access to my Dad's Rebel :)

I've been playing a bit... not sure if I like the bulkiness of a big DSLR compared to the ease of carrying around a point and shoot that fits in my pocket... however I'm loving the shots I got

There is always room for improvement but I'm pleased since I've never really spent much time with anything by my little Power Shot.

Not TOO bad for only 2 days of working with it :)

There will be more :)
